Yes I was there too, had a large amount of memory with me so decided to shoot almost all in raw format as a test of how my workflow will work.
Well here goes. 1. Taken from the infield at Druids. ![]() 2.The mess at Mclaren from another angle ![]() 3. Gratuitous Pan shot (only took about 5 all day) ![]() 4. Midfield (I think) Enters Clearways ![]() Decided I need more reach than 200mm, then I can exploit more angles. All taken in raw on a 350D with a 70-200 F4L and processed in RSE and a minimal amount in CS2.

Thanks Dave, the colour seems to come out different with raw files, I think I prefer it, damn need more cf now or something to dump them onto.

There is no real challenge in panning though, which is why I did very little of it.

I think I did some pans at a 40th of a second. Easy.
it is the easiest thing to do, ever.

I hardly get to pan, I mostly shoot Football, If I pan, I might loose a shot, which means I might get fired

Nicely done, Paul - some excellent shots. It was good meeting you on Sunday.
The 70-200mm f/4L is a nice lens but you're right... at most British race tracks it's simply too short from the public areas. You need a minimum of 300mm and 400mm is really more like it. |

At least 400mm is on my shopping list now for sure, it was very frustrating not being to take shot's I wanted to, ho hum.

get your wallet out (again)
which one though? 100-400 L? or go silly and get a 500mm prime? mine is uber budget but can work well - it doesn't quite focus as fast as the Canon or more expensive Sigma glass, and I think with a body that has Ai Servo it would be fine.

Well me and the word sensible has never gone hand in hand, will have to weigh up the pro's and cons. I have some tucked away for a rainy day I can call on and with hopefully some work coming up it will be down to the lens rather than price.

500mm primes are fun... but often too much. You're going to be left with a BIG gap between 200mm and 500mm and a lot of the action you will want to shoot will be in that range. I also really wouldn't recommend a big prime unless you have two camera bodies available. I usually carry a zoom lens around on a second camera body when I am using the prime (either the Canon 100-400L or the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 ) to give me some close / wide ability.

That's why I am leaning towards the 100-400L, I am used to zoom's rather than primes, well at the moment I am anyway and I have more than enough budget for the 100-400L.

Your Sigma is mental. It focuses very quick!
Meant to ask you yesterday - how does the focus on the star button benefit you? and what's the shooting procedure with it? keep thumb on star button to focus then shoot with the shutter release button?
