Default The Gamma Rays @ Milltown 2011

Alright if you looked at the Transportation section you saw I went to a hot rod show over the weekend called Milltown Hot Rod Show. Which had hot rods and pin up models and Rockabilly bands all day long

Well I took a break from the cars and watched a band. That band being a local Rockabilly Band calling themselves "The Gamma Rays". So as they performed I decided to take performing arts shots for the very first time
This is my very first concert related shoot so any input would be awesome thanks

Cool story about number 4. I was surrounded by actual hired photographers who brought the big expensive cameras and here I am a amateur with my Rebel T2i taking shots. I did not move a bit from my spot. The singer plops himself dead center right infront of me. I don't know if he saw me as the under dog wanting to take some good shots or what but thats what happened and it was funny having these hired pros leaning over me and such trying to get their shots in.

What I will admit I do not like about this series but not sure how to fix it via photoshop is the hard light you see on the bassist to the left side which is coming from the window.
Also the slight blurring of the hands and arms you see from the bassist shot and the singer shot.
But all in all I thought I did ok. I want your guys and gals opinions

Oh yea also just so you guys can hear these guys. I did record video with my camera too. See how many of you know this song from a famous cartoon.

Nice action, but some are a bit blurry.

On the first, you should have moved to the right: Now the drummer is hidden and the mic is a bit in the way.

where we're you when they were playing. I was front dead center from the middle of the act to the end.. from the begining i was in the back leaning against the pole by the place with all the patches and buttons and stickers and stuff. I had a gentlemen with "Cadillac Photography" or something tshirt on next to me on one side. and had another gentlemen in I believe in khaki shorts. and next to the guy with the cadillac photography shirt was another guy with kinda long hair. wasn't paying much attention to whether they were rocking canons or nikons or what.

I was right in that group with the "Cadillac Photography" guy and the guy with longer grey hair, his name is Phil and shoots for a magazine, he shoots Nikon. I'll post one of the pics I took soon, It will be on Flickr.

yep you were literally right next to me almost. haha
Nice shot too! I found out looking over some pics i took of my friend Kerri (the girl from Mz Milltown in the pink/white dress hosting it) that I need to invest in a adjustable flash. The reason why I don't like using flash is cause stock flashes on cameras imo are so bright for some situations like this where all I feel I need were a soft light to just highlight and make the photo pop like yours did.

Maybe next time

Too much flash IMO & blocked drummer. Nice stance though.

to be fair.. there was no way you could get the drummer in this.
It was a very tight space they played in and with so many photographers at this thing (due to it being a very large well documented car show) you pick a spot and you stay there or you lose your chance kinda deal.
and the lighting was a bunch of old halogen lights strung up in random spots so its in that grey area where unless you got a adjustable flash. Your either gonna end up with blurry pictures (like me) with no flash... or pictures way too bright from over flash

So to be honest with what we were given I think he did great

btw peter do you have kerri's facebook? If not I can send you in a pm her facebook and her modeling facebook page too
