Default Runny noses and dirty faces...

Maybe I am just getting old and crotchety but, I dislike seeking images of little kids with filthy faces, unkempt hair and runny noses. Maybe some parents are so used to seeing these things that they don't pay attention to them. However a bit of a face wash; a brush through the hair; or some Kleenex to wipe the snotty noses would cetrainly make the kids look a lot better...

I am getting old and maybe not so crotchety, but I have to disagree with you at a point. I guess it depends on the photo type. I love taking pics of my 14 month old granddaughter as she is having fun and being herself. She usually has food on her clothes drooled down and chocolate smeared on her cheeks or watermelon dripping down her arms. Those are the precious one. When she is in a pretty dress and sitting nicely then yes face should be clean and hair combed.

If you're trying to take more formal portraits, then I totally agree. It is disappointing when I want to take shots of my nephews and their hair is a mess and they're in their play clothes. But, if they are out playing and I'm trying to get candids, then that is what I expect. It's been quite a few years since I was a kid, but not so long ago that I forgot how much fun it was to get dirty
