Nikon has some neat cameras with their "1" series but they are ugly. I hope Canon is holding off on the G13 to make something that will trump this. As I said in another thread, Canon should make the G13 a "mini sports camera" and having fast AF and 7fps does the job as far as I'm concerned. Not every "soccer mom" wants to buy a "bulky" Rebel just to get decent shots of their kids playing sports.
A Canon G13 ASP-C sensor for the WIN!

Wouldn't that be something!

I wish.

I'd be all over that like flies on sugar. Like moths to a light. Like pirates to a cargo ship. Like me to a G13.

And it needs to happen. The S-100 and the G series are in direct competition to each other, and people are starting to realize that retro looks (G-series) isn't enough.

Time to make a bigger sensor for the G-series. To do anything else would be a waste of time.

But then, I'm not in marketing, so what do I know.

Digitarev's review is out. Not their best, I prefer their imitation

That's pretty much what the NEX 7 is.

If you make a 28-140mm (so what, 17-90mm on APS-C) zoom for an aps-c sensor, it is never going to fit back into the body.

THe G12 and S95 sold really well. I wonder if those two combined didn't outsell the NEX.

No. The NEX 7 has a huge lens sticking out of it.

We're looking for something that breaks boundaries. The x10 is close, but the sensor needs to be a bit larger. It can be done. Leica is doing amazing things (but the price is nuts). There has to be a way that someone can put an aps-c sensor in a G12-sized camera. It can be done.

I like fixed zoom lenses.

Ah, heck! Maybe we should all just go back to film.

Sony has an APS-C in a G12 sized or smaller camera. The problem is that there lenses are the size of a beer can in comparison. I think Pentax - when Ricoh fully gets rolling, could accomplish something worthwhile. They've already got the small primes. Zooms though are probably always going to be big unless they are quite slow. You'll note, non of the cool small Leica gear features zoom lenses.

It's actually quite small for an 18-55. If you want something that retracts back into the body like on the G12 or a film compact, then it will have to be a SLOW lens. Maybe something like a f5-9. Then you lose as many stops as the APS-C sensor gains.

Here's one of the most recent film compacts Canon made, before switching entirely to digital: http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/c...page=2001-&p=2

It has a 38-115 f4.6-13 lens. That's right, the max aperture was f13 at 115mm. I bet you needed ISO 400 film to shoot at noon in July. Even the higher end models were rarely faster than f8 at the long end.

I was pretty impressed with the camera though, Seems like a nice little thing and i agree with what Kai said about taking it over a Nikon 1 any day.... The build looks fantastic and the image quality i have to admit is impressive for a compact

I like what Fuji has been putting out lately, they're interesting cool cameras, I'd love Fuji to get their hands on the Nikon 1's sensor and make a camera around it...

For anyone else who pre-ordered on Amazon, I just sent them an email today and their outsourced support told me it's back ordered with no ETA. : (

No one else has them yet either, so it's not just Amazon playing games again. I changed my shipping to overnight, on the off chance that the extra $3.99 will move my order towards the top of the stack.

Pre-Ordered on the 23rd and still "Not Yet Shipped" on Amazon. Sigh.

Looks like no Thanksgiving photos will be taken with my new camera. Amazon just updated my order.
Delivery Estimate: December 19, 2011 : (

Edit: But the good news is that Amazon has them immediately available (through 17th Street Photo) for only $799 plus $15 shipping. That's only $200 over full retail. But if you go to 17th Street Photo's web site, they'll sell you one for the normal price of $599. I guess the $200 markup they have on Amazon is a pretty good indication of what the "order confirmation" telephone call is going to be all about. I bet nobody actually gets one unless they also buy about $500 in accessories.

Or an extra 33%. IMO nothing is more foolish then paying a premium for a new gadget or electronic device. Anyone remember what the hot items where last year?

The darn X10 is already over-priced by $300 or so.
