Thank you for the ID. Was thinking River Otter.

This guy swam right by me and almost filled the frame. I'm going to have to tape my aperture dial so it doesn't move when I put it in or take it out of the bag. It was seriously underexposed. Sure am glad I have an 80D now so it was recoverable.

I don't have an 80D but every Canon with a rear dial that I've ever used has a switch for locking the dial. Looking at a photo of an 80D I see a switch under the dial labeled lock...

Thanks for reminding me. The lock switch was in the locked position but allows both dials to change settings. Apparently I had disabled it because it was getting locked by accident. Now I set it for the lock main dial.

Yeah, I just checked and with my 1DX2 there's a custom function that lets you choose what gets disabled when it's set to Lock, I can choose any combination of the Main Dial, the Quick Control (Rear) Dial, and the Multi-controller (Joysticks). I had actually forgotten that there were that many options, I got used to the older cameras where it just locked the rear dial.

Saw two drakes and a hen yesterday but there was no way to get the camera to the ready before they noticed me and flew off. Today there were two drakes and two hens. It was overcast so not the best light. I just feel fortunate to have seen them.

A few photos from this summer. Taken with either my 70-200 VR II or 300mm F2.8 and my D750.

And a few behind the scenes photos. The kayak before setting off. 300mm mounted to the D750, battery grip removed and shoved into the bag, hood reversed on the lens. It seals up perfectly.

After I get across the lake with the majority of the paddling, I pull out the camera and put the 300mm 2.8 inside the drybag. Put the hood on correctly, attach the grip, and then place the bag over the lens. It does fine for the small bit of mist that comes off the paddles.
