Hi guys. I know there are probably posts of this already but I didn't really find one that was current and helpful. I'm in the market to buy a new SLR and was considering the 7D. I'm just stuck because I would rather wait till they release the 8D, if they even will, or just buy the 7D. Anyone have any new on the 8D or have any advice on what I should do? I also had another question, this might sound stupid but I heard people saying that if you use the camera a lot, like have a high shutter count the picture qualities get bad, is this true?

Thanks

Take a look HERE - You will find loads of wild speculation and guessing about this and anything else you can think of :-)

The short answer is, nobody around here knows, or if they do they won't tell you.

No. Normally the more pictures that you take, the better that your pictures become.

Your 50D is plenty capable... Get out and shoot with it!

The lenses you use on it will make a great deal more of a difference, than the camera you use.

As a fairly new member to POTN I often wondered why there were not that many rumors in the different forums.

Now I see you have just put all the nuts in one basket. Great idea!

It doesn't matter from the point of view of the OP's dilemma but I have always assumed that, since the 7D is a "single digit camera" its successor will be the 7D Mark II.

Correct. Current Canon convention dictates an 8D would be a stripped down 7D. With single digit EOS cameras, a higher number means less features.

I doubt there will be an updated 7D any time soon. The 7D is just about perfect the way it is. What would you change?

Shutter count doesn't effect Image Quality. The shutter either works, or it doesn't. Yes, it will fail one day, but you won't see any degradation until it does fail.

buy the 7d, don't wait for things that aren't announced. you could be waiting a long time, or taking photos now.

+1....should take advantage with the price drop of the 5d mark ii. I got one 2 weeks ago, I love the camera to death. Full frame is magical.

+1... If you're new and just picking up equipment, save yourself the time and money and just go out and get some nice lenses, you won't regret it

.... because Canon (to date at least) hasn't used even numbers for it's xD line of cameras... seems much more likely any successor to the 7D (if that's what you meant) will be a 7D Mark II than 8D...
