This add is too good to be true,

After contacting the supposed owner of this lens
Canon 300mm f2.8 EF Telephoto IS USM Lens - $1800

http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/pho/2670124909.htmlexternal link

I got a email that say's quote:::
***************
I'm in Toronto, ON now (relocated for work) but overnight shipping is
included in the price, UPS or FedEx, and insurance/tracking is also
included.

If you use eBay I'd like to do it that way, so we're both protected
and can exchange feedback later. You will be covered by $2000 buyer
protection
and get 90 days money back guarantee.

I just need your name and eBay ID, once I set it up with eBay they'll
confirm it with you and then we're good to go, even if you don't use
eBay now I can set it up.
It will be set up for WU payment which is instant so I can ship same
day. My sister works for them and gets the fee back so I will cover
the fee.
Just go to http://www.westernunion.com/info/agentInquiryIntl.aspexternal link and
find their agent close to you
Let me know when you do that and I can send you all details and instructions
***************

It's not even posted in Totonto's classified!!!!

It's a 4 letter word SCAM

Most definitely since they want to use Western Union which isn't trackable.

It's so fortunate his sister works for WU! (sarcasm)

Of course it's a scam when a $5k lens is being offered for $1800.

Holy crap that's a fantastic price! You'd better jump on that lens before I do. <--all sarcasm aside-->
I just hate morons who post adds like that in craigslist (anywhere for that matter.) Good job on checking it out before you jumped the gun on it.

Yep, but I got one of my brothers that has that mania of buying and selling at really low prices, but him he's not frauding, he is just being an idiot!

He bought a Iphone 4 for $650 and sold it, it was in mint condition to his
friend for $200, and purchased a Iphone4S, for another $650, gee, he should apply as the mayor of Montreal, that guy spend are hard worked money and shove it god knows where!

I know it may seem crazy buy my practice with craigslist is if I can't talk verbally with someone then their not going to get my business. If all they leave for me is the standard craigslist e-mail then in my eyes they're either a scammer or don't have any real interest in selling.

Colnago bike? Heck I have gotten those trying to sell a couch I ended up giving away. Even the Goodwill didn't want it. Its amazing though that there are poor people out there that actually fall for this stuff as ridiculous as it sounds.

Dude, I replied to that same ad a few months ago, from the Vancouver craigslist. Same asshead, same story. I knew it going in because the price is clearly just too insane, so I contacted him just for the hell of it. I listened to his bull, and called him a thief. I then flagged his ad every time I saw he'd re-posted it and told him I'd keep doing it. Obviously, it didn't have much of an effect in the long run.

Wow, hopefully no one will be sucked in!
I was also going to tell him that is price was way too low for something like that, but I was curious and excited too, Imagine that lens in my hand, I would use it everyday......:)

Hehe. The ad I referred to just popped up again on craigslist Vancouver. So I wrote the crook again, asking why he'd sell a 6-month old 300mm 2.8 IS for just $1800. And here's his response:

I got it as a gift, don't need it

I'm in Hamilton, ON now (relocated for work) but overnight shipping is included in the price, UPS or FedEx, and insurance/tracking is also included.

If you use eBay I'd like to do it that way, so we're both protected and can exchange feedback later. You will be covered by $2000 buyer protection
and get 90 days money back guarantee...I did over 70,000 transactions with them

I just need your name and eBay ID, once I set it up with eBay they'll confirm it with you and then we're good to go, even if you don't use eBay now I can set it up.

It will be set up for WU payment which is instant so I can ship same day. My sister works for them and gets the fee back so I will cover the fee.

Just go to www.westernunion.comexternal link and find their agent close to you

Let me know when you do that and I can send you all details and instructions

OP - to save you the pain of dealing with this scammer, just send me $1800. I've got lots of time (I don't work) to look for a 300 2.8L IS lens for you, and when I find one for $1800 I'll use your money to purchase it for you. ;)
