Default First time shooting theater.

My wife is a theater person here, and now that I'm into photography I'm able to bring my camera a long to her shows and do shoots in the show.

This is my first time shooting one of her shows, "Aladdin Jr." for the GreasePaint theater.

Whatcha guys think? (shot with my 50mm f/1.4, at varying iso / shutter speeds.)

The color is way off in 1,2,and 3..#1 is overexposed.

#4 is the best

#5 is way off in color too

Shooting with theater lighting is difficult.

What he said! And large numbers of white shirts makes it even worse.

scorpio, thank you for the comments. I was having a hard time adjusting my iso / shutter / etc... to get shots.

Is the composition / crops / overall thought of the image on with these shots in your guy's opinions?

As mentioned, color and exposure vary a bit too much. But I think most could be fixed in the raw converter.

You say you were "having a hard time adjusting my iso / shutter / etc". Why? Did lighting vary that much? I'd expect it to be rather constant on stage… (with 4 being an obvious exception, but even there, I'd assume the spotlight to be more or less equally bright to the total stage lighting in the rest…

If light is fairly constant, IMO M is the way to go.
Set ISO high enough to get a decent shutter speed, set WB to "Tungsten", shoot.
Occasionally watch the histogram or the preview for blinkies. Don't judge exposure by how it looks on the camera display.

yeah, the lighting changed dramatically scene to scene from where I was seated.

I did all shots in M.
