Default Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 EX OS

http://www.dpreview.com/news/1009/10...igma100300.asp

If it is as sharp as the current lens it could be an interesting buy indeed!

Unfortunately no mention of a focus limiter.

Your point about the lack of limiter is a fair one, but the MFD is listed as 1.5m-2.5m, not sure if that's selectable or something or just an estimate of what it will be.

Just realised they've released a 150mm macro with OS too. Damn. They've just taken two for their lenses with no real match and given them OS. Though with that said I can't remember needing OS on the macro, I almost always use flash.

I guess MFD depends on focal length, certainly ain't a macro

Actually, I'd hope it's sharper. I was never that thrilled about it's 300mm performance wide open. It AF speed was a bit unspectacular too. Hopefully Sigma have raised the bar and improved these areas too.

Haha fair point, I don't really recall seeing MFDs listed like that normally. I'm sure you're correct.

The MFD isn't an expression of magnification factor either. Some zoom lens maximum focal length can shorten quite a lot as they focus closer, resulting in a lower magnification factor than expected. Nikon's 70-200 VR II lens is a well documented example. A great lens, but at MFD, zoomed out to 200mm yields an approximate 135mm not the expected 200mm.

The Canon 28-135mm IS lens does simular too.

Be interesting to see the price of this in the uk as the current version is around the £1700 mark?

Hopefully, it will be razor sharp with a 1.4x TC and maintain fast and accuarate AF performance - it could then displace the 100-400 as the ideal airshow and safari lens (particularly with its weather sealing).

Would be nice but again without focus limitting TCs get awful slow...maybe they just forgot to mention it
