I'm taking it you're located in NYC, Neil?

Nooo! That's horrible! I can at least say at least your 70-200 and 7D didn't snap in half (I remember it being in the official show your camera thread?) so look on the bright side!

These were taken after I dropped the lens, would do for a 6x9 print but if you look closer it is kinda blurry and the bokeh just isn't right. It just sucks that there is no real Canon Service in Mexico

I am sorry to hear this. I have never dropped a lens (not yet), but I can imagine the horror.

I hope Canon can fix it for you.

Wow. That bokeh does look strange. Hope you are able to get it fixed quickly!

I'm presently shooting a 7D and am contemplating switching to a full frame for better high ISO capability (if Canon ever releases an attractive successor to the 5d mkII). I have the lovely 17-55 IS, which I won't be able to use on a full frame camera. I find that I'm reaching for my 50mm f/1.4 almost all the time when shooting indoors anyway, and going only to the 17-55 when 50mm on my crop frame is too long. I just can't get quite the same quality out of the zoom. It's definitely more convenient for composition however, and there is no doubt I do more cropping when shooting a prime.

I'm thinking of selling the 17-55, picking up the 35L and using the 35L and 50 f/1.4 for most of my indoors stuff. Maybe picking up a 135L for a little more length outdoors... Between the images in this group and the 135L group, I'm drooling over primes and full frames... I did the math and compared the relative focal lengths of the two primes on a full-frame and I think those will work for me. I can't help but think that if I were using a zoom that something in the 70-200 range would be more useful for me.

Is this sound reasoning?

I'm shooting lots of pictures of my kids, indoors without great lighting.
