Last night was my chance to image Comet Lovejoy from Terrigal, NSW, but cloud and rain persisted throughout the early morning.
This was as good as I was going to get due to the conditions before sunrise. As you can see the comet is partly behind the clouds and to the left of the Milkyway. The orange light on the horizon is a cargo ship. Single 48 sec exp, ISO 1600, 5Dc, 24mm at f/2.8. Hope you enjoy, I'll try again tonight. Merry Christmas everyone. Dusty

Looking forward to seeing them. Nice shot, BTW, even with the cloud! I like it!
I managed to go out both mornings, my photos are here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...php?p=13594606

Terrific shot, Dusty, and merry Christmas to you! This looks like something from a movie.

Thanks Doug and Rudi.
Here's another taken Christmas day consisting of 16 x 20 sec stack, ISO 3200, 24mm at f/2.8, 5D MkII. The tail looked like a pillar of light rising up out of the horizon next to the Milkyway (or as we say "The Emu"). Dusty.

Just curious on the first image, how did you shoot a 48sec single exposure and not get streaking in the stars or very minimal?
I was out shooting last night and was seeing streaks even at 10secs.

The second shot is a stack using Deep Sky Stacker. It stacked the images using the star positions and hence the forground is blurry. It's just that you don't notice the minimal star streaks at 24mm on short exposures. You can see it in the full res image but not noticeable on these unless you look closely. What F.L were you shooting at to see streaks at 10 sec ? Dusty

Nice shots
I was hoping for some shots this morning but the weather isn't playing nice in Adelaide either.
