Unless you are pro video user, S95 does everything S100 can do!

Correct me if I'm wrong the S100 has a CMOS sensor and the S95 a CCD sensor? CCD has in my eyes always been a bit more contrasty and hence looks sharper.
I bought the S100 for it's low light capabilities and multi-area white balance correction in green box auto mode. I think it's great in auto mode but when you go into manual you lose that feature. I've never owned a S-series before only the G series (G9 and G12) and bought this as the G12 was too bulky for an office suite when out doing surveys. |

I bought the S100 and I've been happy with it so far, mainly because of its 24mm wide angle, it's easy to operate and ergonomics have improved. Yeah, price difference to S95 is big here in Finland, but still I ended on the S100 because of the wide angle. I might buy G1 X later but I think I'll keep this for a while at least.

I'm no pro. And AFAIK, the S95 doesn't record in slow motion. It's a fun feature to have, but I use it on my S100 to analyze motion (currently studying kinesiology) - it's been indispensable.

You can drive yourself nuts reading the web on comparisons. I chose the s100 for wider lens, video button, and overall feel compared to the s95. I paid $100 over what the s95 is selling for in my area, but am very happy with it. This will not replace my 50d, but will replace it for some family events, and light travel.
Here is another comparison http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-S1..._PowerShot_S95

I keep hearing/reading "better image quality" on several websites (but not all...) but are we really seeing that? Maybe in general this really is the case, and maybe some of us got a bad copy of the S100. So how would I know if I did? |

I asked before, could you post some comparison pictures you took, and settings. It's new to me there are"bad copies" out there?

As far as bad copies, I believe it was DP Review that was posting that they tried two or three copies of the S100 and were still having issues (and waiting for another one from Canon) but it seems they've updated the review now and that info is gone. |

DPreview went through 4 (or was it 6?) before they got a decent one for testing IIRC.

Well, let's see how I do with the comparison pics here....
These are just completely random pictures from around my house. Straight from the camera with zero editing. Set 1: f/2, 1/50, ISO 1600, AWB, no flash (identical settings for the S95) S100 ![]() s95 ![]() Set 2: f/2, 1/25, ISO 1600, AWB, no flash (for both) S100 ![]() S95 ![]() Set 3: f/2, 1/60, ISO 1600, AWB, no flash (for both) S100 ![]() S95 ![]() Set 4: This last set had a slightly different shutter speed, but I still wanted to post it because there is a pretty noticeable difference in detail that I don't believe would have changed a whole lot with a different shutter speed (look at the crackle in the wall. ***edited to add: I just noticed it's a lot harder to see it at this size. bummer!***). S100 - f/2, 1/40, ISO 1600, AWB, no flash S95 - f/2, 1/20, ISO 1600, AWB, no flash S100 ![]() S95 ![]() Wish I could get them side-by-side for y'all, but I'm not quite that talented tonight. I want to thank everyone who chimed in on this thread. I'm really debating getting the s100 and thought the same about the s95 being more than capable. I had so many different Canon cameras now and my favorite one, surprisingly, was the G12. It did so much that I was looking for but I wanted that f2 that the s95/s100 has to offer. Now all I have to do now is convince the wife into letting me get it
