President Obama arrived in Arizona this afternoon. Planned Location A was nixed by local law enforcement but I managed to find a suitable Plan B...

More or Less "Head On" @ 500mm + MkIII

IMAGE: http://crosswindimages.com/img/s3/v45/p922705757.jpg

Had to grab MkIV + 70-200 for profile shots...

IMAGE: http://crosswindimages.com/img/s3/v40/p922901019.jpg

And back to 500mm for tails away...

Not something you see every day so it was worth getting caught in the post arrival traffic stoppage in order to capture this iconic aircraft!

Enjoy!! :D

Nice, Jay! I've gotta listen for when he next comes to town and see if I can get out and get some captures; definitely not a plane you get a chance to shoot every day.

Thanks Eric. I almost decided to stay home because I was sure security would be a pain...

As it turned out, despite being circled by a Phoenix PD helicopter just prior to AF1's arrival, no issues at all! When the local PD rolled up on me at Plan A, I actually beat him to the punch and said "I have a hunch I didn't pick a good spot, huh?" All he could do was laugh!

Based on security (last photo) you still managed a great location for these. Nice series. At least you knew what to say when they rolled up on you - if they laughed it's all good.

Very nice series of AF1 Jay!

Never noticed the polished sections on the underside... there any special purpose to that you know?

I agree. And sometimes having a Plan C doesn't hurt, either. ;)

It's just extra bling for show. Awesome to look at up close, but painful for the mx techs that need to polish it all the time. Wish we had the polished look on AF2 when I flew that.

Looks like location B worked out really well. Great shots and nice that you got something from every angle as well.
