They look good to me. I guess it was very sunny, as the shadows are really harsh - but I would be happy to have taken them!

regards,

Womens Pole Vault one is fantastic! You caught a great moment in that.

I like your shots, but I would have liked the men's pole vault in a vertical composition better. It needs a better sense of height. The woman's PV shot works better because the bar leads you into the shot, and has the dynamic action going on, whereas in the men's shot, the bar sort of cuts the whole shot in half. Just my 2 cents...TIFWIW

In shot #1, the action is fine and the dramatic sky is a big plus. The shadows, however, are causing big problems for this shot. The face is devoid of any recognizable detail because of those shadows. You would have been better served by moving to get the sun at your back or to adjust the exposure and shoot it back-lit. One way or another, the face should be exposed properly to make this a keeper.

The lighting in shot #4 (ladies pole vault) is better and the skin tones show it. The lighting more from the approach end of the bar seems to be the place to be. The perspective from being even with the bar is terrific and the background bokeh also helps. It needs a clearer view of the face. If you shot this as a burst, what did the two frames before this look like?

Sometimes you have to blow out the sky to be able to get faces.
