Statistics mean a little to me.

So Did anyone really made the change?

I love the competitive nature of these 2 companies. You know who'll be the winner here? Us. This means prices will go down and the rate at which technology advances will increase. However, with 36mp, you're looking at using huge files. However, if you can afford the switch, you should be able to afford upgrading your PC. Driving a Ferrari is one thing, affording the gas and insurance is another. :P

I made the switch a while ago, as did many others. As for switching to the D800, nobody has yet.

We are NOT winners here, they only give us the impression that we are getting a good deal so they can make more profit by exciting us. They get sales that way.

So who has actually put a d800 on pre-order?

Me too. If it ends up being not for me, not really going to lose that much reselling it. I would have to rent it to check it out either way and I'm sure that won't be cheap so I could either rent it for $300 a week or whatever it is or use it for 3 months and then sell it and maybe lose $500 or thereabouts.

I see marketing is alive and well for the "got to have the best" crowd .It's an addiction of sorts , isn't it....you know , thinking you have the best equipment that will make you the ultimate photog .
I see tons of crappy pictures posted here on POTN , I'm sure the standard will be raised a few bars with the all new and amazing D800

And for those of you who say you won't lose anything or very little selling your gear to switch......good luck with that too .

I read similar bitter posts every time something new comes out. Its the photog, not the camera, etc. etc. you can use crappy 10 year-old equipment and take award winning pix etc etc.....

The best equipment will not make anyone the ultimate photog, but it would make it EASIER to take great photos by good photographers. Nothing wrong with it. Yep, there are tons of crappy pictures that you see everywhere, but less so when you see pro equipment used. You can roll your eyes all you want. As far as people switching their gear, you can do good if you know what you are doing.

I bet you'll love it, but if for whatever reason you don't I'll make another bet that you won't lose more than $100 especially looking at how well the D700 has held up.

I see too many spending the time hounding gear instead of spending the time to really learn how to use it . I would never jump on the wagon for new gear till it's been out for a while and really proves it is all to be expected . I see to many threads where the new owner of the lastest is crying the blues because it hasn't met their expectations . As for the rest.....baloney , no bitterness here I'm happy with what little I have
