haha, its just one of those threads where OP makes a stupid complaint, half the forum debates. OP never to be seen again. Then eventually thread gets locked. New one crops up every week. OP seems to only log into this forum to complain about manuals, he/she did same for the G12...

Then im suckered into replying. fueling the fire.

It is ridiculous not to have a printed manual with a camera that is aimed at the enthusiast market. I don't know about you, but when I have my cameras out and about down forest trails...I like to have a manual to find out how I can use my camera he fullest.

Kind of hard to take a computer down a forest trail, just to refer to a CD of the manual.

I think Canon's position is at best...politically correct.

Not having a printed manual affects the resale value. Because everyone who is looking to buy a used camera always want the original box and the manual and CD's still vacuum-sealed.

As for carrying a printed manual down a forest trail... really? What else do you really need to learn/know besides shutter speed, aperture, and iso and which dials/buttons to adjust them?

We had the same type of complaint/thread when the G12 came out because there was no printed manual . Well guess what , David Busch came out with a great G12 manual/how to use book and I'll bet the same will be available in a few months for this and many other cameras without printed manuals , just keep an eye on Amazon .

Don't despair OP , these bullies are harmless armchair internet warriers with too much time on their hands

As I see it, it's best to learn the tool of the trade before using them. Take my actual day job, for instance. I'm a dentist. The last thing you want if you were a patient is to sit in a chair and see your dentist bust out a printed owner's manual on how to operate the drill. While no one is born with the knowledge of how to operate said drill, you would expect nothing less than your dentist knowing how to operate it before he/she uses it on you.

So enlighten me then, what would you garner from a printed owner's manual in hand? If not for how to get to and operate the various controls and navigate the built-in menu... you're looking for what... Sunny 16 rules and suggestions?

You have had your fun. Many of you have exposed your intelligence while belittling mine.

If Canon would put the manual on a memory card and make it viewable on the camera, than I would be willing to switch. I am after a very compact manual that can be carried when you are out hiking. I inevitably run across situations where a feature comes to mind, but do not remember all the steps, so I don't use it on that trip.

I think you would have received a lot less grief if your thread title was something like "disappointed that Canon doesn't include printed manual" or something along those lines.

some people telling you: "Download the manual and read it on your computer".. Oh Man, I loathe to read it on computer.. So I suggest you download a Canon Manual PDF into Tablet (such as Nook, SamTab, ipad or Galaxy Player 5 on and on) and read it on your beautiful Mini tab/ regular Tablet instead of Computer.
