Default Big 1st Bday Party

Please critique my goal is to constantly improve at this hobby!
All photos shot with nifty fifty lens (first day of ever using it).

This is the birthday boy in his brand new wagon before the party

Looks like he had a fun birthday.. You're doing a great job with your 50mm lens!

Outdoor ones are really nice. For the indoor shots, you could try bouncing the flash (if using a flash unit). Would help eliminating harsh shadows and give you much more even and soft lighting.

Beat me to it

Nice use of the DOF on the fifty. Just bounce that flash inside!

Thanks for the comments and tips. Unfortunately I am still using the standard stock flash and I'm realizing very quickly how an upgrade could help me tremendously!

Find a used 430EX II. That's what I did. Makes a tremendous difference.

In the meantime, you can invest a mere $30 for a diffuser and I think it will help to soften your photos... for a temporary fix while you are waiting to upgrade..

What a cute baby! Looks like he is really enjoying his birthday cake! My only critique is that the flash seems to be really over bearing. Apart from that, I love the pics of him in his bright red wagon!
