well, the iPad 3 looks interesting, but only if you live in one of the few areas with 4G connectivity. I'm happy with my old iPad and iPad 2 for the uses I currently have.

I skipped the first two so the 3 it is. Looks like i will be going with verizon LTE as they have a more robust network. Just worry a bit as ATT historically produces much better data download than verizon for me.

I really didn't want either of the two I got, but my wife insisted.....seriously. The first one is wireless only, so I use it at home. The iPad is 3G, and I appreciate being able to browse the net without being connected to a network when I'm out of the house. Faster downloads would be nice, but aren't enough of an incentive to spend another $600+. Once again, however, my wife is telling me she wants me to have it, but this time I really think I'll dig in. There are so many other things I'd like to have more, like a G12. I'm not sure she'll believe me, though.

I'm actually kind of glad they didn't drop the price point. Would have been a dumb move - would have devalued the devices currently owned by people just by setting a lower price to compete with the Kindle Fire.

That being said, I always skip a generation with this stuff, and since I have the iPad2, I'll wait for the next iPad to replace it.

I do that with most technology as well but tend not to do it with cameras, or at least I haven't so far. I'm still contemplating the MkIII though.

I think that's a good plan. I went from an iPhone to a 3GS, then to the 4. The 4G looks really sexy and does have some interesting new features, but I don't believe I need any of them, and the iPad just gives me redundancy anyway. I decided it's not worth $400.00 and another two years of indentured servitude. I'm happy to wait and see what comes next.

I also agree with your observations on the price point.

Still rockin' a 3G iPad MkI and still pretty happy with it.

Phone though is getting long in the bluetooth and will probably be the next upgrade

G12 is slowly coming down in price.. I've seen them recently around the $350 mark which seems like a pretty good deal. I have to imagine getting rid of an old iPad would do wonders to get you towards the goal of getting one of those little guys (I am almost sad that I didn't just cough up the extra money and get that instead of the S95, but I got mine from the ridiculous Amazon deal they had not too long before Christmas - $229 I believe - and couldn't pass it up).

True story, I buy cell phones more regularly than I buy clothing.

What if you sell the 3g ipad? That would put a big dent into the price of a new one.
