Speaking of silence, or more accurately, the lack thereof, I decided to put new tires on the bike today. Apparently I pinched the tube on the rear wheel, because when I pumped it up to about 110psi, there was a bang right next to my ear; I had the bike on the shop stand and was pumping it with the floor pump, so I was bent over right next to the bike. It took about 10 minutes for the ringing in my ears to go away. The old tube was okay, and everything went fine on the second attempt.

The old tires were 700 X 25, and the new ones are 700 X 23. None of the local shops even have 700 X 25's, except with wire beads. I'm thinking the difference is not critical, and may have been a cost savings when the bike was built; the wire bead tires appear to be cheaper by a fair amount.

I called my friend Ian (a former POTN moderator) who is sales manager for Giant Bicycles for the whole province of Quebec. He was telling me that things in their business are a little slow, and they are still selling last year's models in Canada. He also said there is very little radically new in the pipeline. Most changes between the model years are cosmetic, although the current version of my bike does have disk brakes. That intrigues me.

That would upset me, too, but these are different times. There is very little commitment to relationships these days. People seem to jump into and out of them with no more thought than buying a pair of shoes.

Do you not like the fellow or is it that you think they should be married?

I don't know about his daughter, Crissa. It could be true love, and maybe they'll live happily every after. My own observation of younger people today is that there is no longer any courtship. Finding a soul mate appears to have become a matter of trial and error, with a lot more errors than successes. I think we have lost a lot when traditional courtship became unfashionable.

Which race did you check? They didn't ride the Gran Fondo, they rode the Medio Fondo.

Omar has the ride posted in Strava and said Mayra had her longest ride ever today, so I think they finished.

I'll go with his Strava post! Maybe they just didn't bother doing any timing at all for the Medio. Seems odd that they wouldn't at least track competitors....just to be sure they were all accounted for.

I didn't finish my ride tonight, but nobody cares.

Actually, I had a blowout on one of the new tires tonight, about 6 1/2 miles into my ride, but less than a mile from the house. I walked the bike home, and took the wheel apart to find the bead had failed. New tube and new tire, both toast. Guess who I'm going to visit tomorrow. The back tire blew while I was inflating it, so I figure that was my fault; It was probably pinched between the bead and the rim. The second failure was definitely not my fault. I rode on it for a full half hour before it blew, and after my earlier experience, I made very sure it was properly installed.

Anyway, I'm becoming very proficient at changing tires.

I care Chief!!

Sounds like some faulty equipment you've got there. That's never any fun.
