Default Tipping in Kenya(Africa)

Everyone who has been to Kenya/Tanzania or in any part of Africa is aware of the tipping(gratitude), if you have any knowledge about it could you please share, how much is expected and so on. Thanks for all your help.

If your talking restaurants...it depends on how expensive the restaurant is (it seems 5-10% of the bill seems standard).

In terms of tour guides, waiters/staff at lodges, you can really give whatever you feel, depending on how your stay was. Many lodges have a tipping box which is divided amongst all staff at the lodge.

For the tour guide I've always done $10 per day per person as a starting point - more if they're particularly good. The porters that carry bags on arrival and departure get $2 - 5$ each (depends on how much I have in small bills). For everybody else in the lodges I use the tip-box (if there isn't one ask on reception) at around $10 a day, depending on how good it was.

Thanks for the recommendations as well. I've heard some similar numbers, edging up a bit ($15 - $7) if it's a more advanced guide (ie backpacking, etc). Frank - was your tour a safari?

I am booking a trip at the moment and this is what our agent told us re tips "reasonable for tipping? Recommended tipping is $25/day for the driver from whole group. At the Lodges/Camps you can leave $1 or $2 per table for waiter/waitress after meal."
