This is a porta del vino, or "wine door," which was used in Florence Italy for hundreds of years. People would knock on the door where families who lived in these palaces sold agricultural products, most notably wine. This one is from the Palazzo Strozzino.

I knocked on the door and sadly nobody tried to sell ME any wine

This arched entrance includes the step-over ghost barrier. The smeared red paint is residue of Mao slogans painted during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976)...

I don't know what these banners say... This entranceway combines Old China with New China. The construction is obviously from Old China while the parked motor scooter is a symbol of New China. Motor scooters have replaced bicycles as a major for or transport in China. Looking through the entrance, you can see the step-over ghost barrier...
