I read about it in a Tom Ang photography book and tried it with a 3 or 4 exposure shot. It really did reduce the noise without hurting the image detail. It is fairly labor/time intensive though.

I also wonder if it has any applicability to doing things like smooth water photos without having to use an ND filter. Take several shots of the same waterfall or stream. Image average in post. I wonder what the moving water would look like. Anyone tried this? Is it worth my time to experiment?
