Default Questions about 12 mo olds

I'm doing my first 12 mo old shoot soon and I don't have kids so I'm not entirely sure what they can do at this point. They should be able to stand while holding onto something, right?

Do you guys have some examples (of both studio and outdoor) of stuff you've done with a 12 mo old?

I tried to search but apparently I'm not good at it, sorry!

Do a search for 1st Birthday shoots and you will likely get some ideas of who they are and what they can do. From what I have seen there can be a big difference in kids around this age. I know some who could not stand and others who walk and talk. You still stand a chance of getting one that is not too active - my guy is 16 months now and no chance of him holding still for a minute. Only good shots I get are when he is distracted (and he has the attention span of a flea).

Good luck! My son is 8 months old and he recentely learned how to stand holding to something (he can't even crawl properly yet ) and it's an absolute nightmare. He won't lay, he won't sit, all he wants to do is stand and jump (yes, jump!). He is also very active, won't hold still even for a second.

I want to start photographing babies soon. I know that if I can work with him, I can work with almost every baby out there. He is a little devil

The only time he is not active (except when he's asleep), is just after his nap, but it only last for a minute or two.

Good luck with your shoot, it won't be easy

Yes, it def depends on the child...like the previous members mentioned, some may just stand (some on their own, some holding onto something) and some may take off running! So it's best for that age to simply ask the parents. They won't be offended, just watch how you word it. Just mention that you are thinking of a few different setups for their session and would love to find out their favorite things to do. Then incorporate...do they like to stand and hold onto things, or do they take off like a shot even before their feet hit the ground? lol Being prepared is always better than unprepared and of course, finding out more about their child and their personalities, makes you more personable and caring with the parents.

Try not to stress. I'm sure it will go great!

Thanks guys, I did try a search but I got a bunch of birthday cake/party shots which isn't really what I'm looking for.

I will be in touch with her to discuss outfits so I'll ask about what the little lady can do

Just need to think about different poses and set-ups. I understand newborns, and older kids (like 3+) but this in between age gets me.
