Chet some food for thought:

Quote:
I have written out some of my favorite exercises for the feet in my barefoot running transition articles, and doing those exercises can greatly help you in getting rid of those flat feet. This does not mean you have to become a barefoot runner. You can keep the shoes, but you have to change the way you look at shoes. Look at them as protection and not support. The first thing you tell a salesperson is that you want a neutral shoe with minimal heel to toe drop, and do not let them tell you that you “need” something else.

Actually the way the article was formatted it's not clear on first reading that he is against the advice that is being given by the medical community. He is advocating staying away from orthotics and instead to focus on building the foot musculature back up.

He quotes the Google Health and Wikipedia articles but they look like part of his own writing.

Can I join this group? Sounds like a lot of motivation, which I need right now. On Feb 13 I had an aortic dissection brought on by undiagnosed high blood pressure. Spent 8 days in the hospital before it came down to manageable levels. The upside of the ICU stay was that I was able to kick my 8 bottle a day Diet Pepsi addicition, thanks to 5 days of pain killers to help me thru the withdrawal headaches! LOL! So now I am on 4 BP meds, a low salt diet, drinking water and only having 1 bottle of Diet Pepsi a day. But I am still weak and tired, a walk around WalMart to get groceries wears me out. I have a treadmill, but haven't started using it again yet. I had lost 14 pounds since my hospital stay, but gained back 2 since Easter, thanks to the 1/2off chocolate Easter bunnies I bought! And I have lost 10% of my weight since December. My goal is to work in 10% increments, that sounds so much better than the total of 45-50 that I need to lose.

Just a tip for anyone who would like to take this advice.

Don't ever go to a grocery store hungry. You're apt to buy more foods that you don't need. Try going after dinner if you work a 9-5, or just go after a meal. It'll save you money, too!

So I purchased a new pair or shoes yesterday and today my ankles feel fabulous. Wearing a pair of 2 year old sneakers is an issue I guess.

That is my goal to just say I want to lose 20#'s at a time. It's a more achievable goal then the 100# total.

Good Luck!

Wow, that's a lot of soda to go through in one day! Glad to hear you're making progress.

So did you get anything special, or were they just off the shelf?

Was talking to one of my friends at church on Easter and relating to her my walking regimen, she passed on to me that if you walk or run regularly you should change out your shoes every three to four months because the insoles eventually get worn away.

Take it from someone who learned the hard way-attempting to walk long distances at a brisk walk in Converse All-Stars is NOT a good idea-and I grew up with All-Stars...

I dropped from 272 to 253 (as of last week Dr. visit) in a little over a year. Mainly just with diet changes. I basically turned vegetarian about 5-days out of the week, eat a lot more veggies and fruits and basically live off morningstar products... and rarely go out to eat anymore (I avoided fast food before anyway).

But nothing else changed and the weight is coming off. Diet will make a big difference all by itself and you feel better too. Hoping to drop about 10-15lbs by end of summer

Everyone is welcome, Dawn. Some of us are better at sticking with it and doing well than others (me on the others), but all of us mean well.

I've officially been to the gym 6 times in 7 days. How do I lose the occasional food craving? So far food is my biggest challenge.
