I would ask what feel of photo you are after, single flower/close up then macro,
single isolated flower amoung others(blured) then maybe the 135mm opened up wide. A whole bed of flowers pssobily a wide angle lens still opened up wide to isolate a row of flowers |

A little clarity: I'm trying to get a single flower picture. Flower surrounded by green monkey grass type stuff, so it sounds out.
I do the see the focus plane clearly, but have trouble isolating the flower from the grass. Croppng doesn't really help for what I'm trying to get. I get more grass in focus than I want as it is in the focus plane too. I'm thinking, for what i want, I am gonna need something that can focus closer - something with a small MFD (isolate the subject from the grass around it - especially under it), hence the macro lens thought. Tubes might work too although, in some limited use, I could never really get tubes to work right. Guess I could trim the grass around flower. Might have to consider that one. The picture in my head is like the flower in post #4507. |

That single rose shot is pretty close to what I am trying to get - just with a much busier surrounding.

Can you post an example with a tele lens and as wide an aperture as you have? Then somebody may have suggestions...

To help eliminate a busy background when shooting a single flower, you might try using spot metering on the flower. This generally will make the area outside of the exposure reading darker to help isolate your flower. I would also suggest shooting with the flower in full shade even if that means using something to block the sun like a dark T shirt.
Looking at your lenses, if you don't have a fast lens, then use the longest focal length you have to give you as shallow a depth of field as possible too. Oh, and as I'm sure you know, you don't have to wait until after a rain to shoot...just use a spray bottle to spritz a fine mist of water on the flowers. The misting will bead up creating nice 'rain drops'.

Not sure if this has been posted, but it seems the battery grip (After me presuming it was due now) may have been delayed until the end of May..

In case others have not seen these diagrams, they show the sealing for the 5D3... (I added the D800 for comparison). The 5D3 looks to have more sealing in a few locations, which is great.
Green = tight seems (basically water-tight) Red = Sealing Gaskets ![]() Here is the 5D2 to compare, quite a big difference in sealing with the 5D3. More gaskets used all over. ![]() Last edited by Invertalon : 26th of April 2012 (Thu) at 09:41. |

There are two ways of looking at those. #1 the MkIII has better sealing or #2, the MkIII has more places that need to be sealed. One cannot draw conclusions as to the water tightness based on the number of seals. The design could be such that seals are not needed. For instance, take a can and a jar and look at the seals. The jar has a seal and the can does not. Does that mean that the jar is sealed better?
