Set aperture and shutter, put ISO in auto. Wouldn't you want to be able to apply EC so when the camera decides what ISO to use it respects your +/- EC?

Don't know how other people shoot, but this is in fact the only time and the only way I'd want to use auto ISO--when I have a particular aperture and shutter speed I want in fluctuating lighting conditions and don't care what ISO is used. Auto ISO in other exposure modes is 1 too many variables to keep track of for this feeble brain of mine.

Oh yeah? How exactly does it work in M mode for example?

But how can it "respect" your +/- EC in M mode? How would the camera know whether you want the aperture or shutter speed changed? I can't wrap my brain around this! Totally confused!!!

By changing the ISO! In M mode, you'd set your aperture and shutter speed, and the ISO would go up or down depending on the EC you set.

Didn't you have a darkside camera before ? . I'm at work I can provide detail example once I finish with work. In general the SS and aperture value don't change but the ISO will go up and down depends on how you EC it. I think Canon implementations is still half baked unfortunately.

Hmm...I guess set the aperture and shutter in M mode, which could be + or - relative to center. Then the Auto ISO would kick in to honor that setting then? So if the scene becomes a little darker, the ISO will be raised, keeping the relative + or - position.

Yeah...that would be useful. But I don't think that's how it's implemented right?

That's what I'm wondering. From a few minutes searching it appears that setting exposure compensation in M mode actually skews the light meter. So if you dialed in 2 stops of EC and then forgot about the next time you used the camera all of your exposures would be off by 2 stops even though you'd been zeroing the meter.

Yeah. I don't remember being able to over/under expose in M mode with Auto ISO on. It will always force the meter to the middle. Not sure. Can't remember. I remember it worked well in Av mode though.

I think it's very useful if you want to have your metering the same (SS and f-stop values) but you just want to adjust the tonality of the scene (white snow, dark clothing, etc).
