Don't know how other people shoot, but this is in fact the only time and the only way I'd want to use auto ISO--when I have a particular aperture and shutter speed I want in fluctuating lighting conditions and don't care what ISO is used. Auto ISO in other exposure modes is 1 too many variables to keep track of for this feeble brain of mine. |

Oh yeah? How exactly does it work in M mode for example?

By changing the ISO! In M mode, you'd set your aperture and shutter speed, and the ISO would go up or down depending on the EC you set.

Yeah...that would be useful. But I don't think that's how it's implemented right?

That's what I'm wondering. From a few minutes searching it appears that setting exposure compensation in M mode actually skews the light meter. So if you dialed in 2 stops of EC and then forgot about the next time you used the camera all of your exposures would be off by 2 stops even though you'd been zeroing the meter.

I think it's very useful if you want to have your metering the same (SS and f-stop values) but you just want to adjust the tonality of the scene (white snow, dark clothing, etc).
