Took some shots this weekend while visiting some friends bands in toronto.
Let me know what you think, I'm always up for criticism and critiques! -david edit: there are also more photos on my blog at www.dmilwain.blogspot.com

This shot has a lot of energy. I'd be interested in looking at more of them.

I like the composition of the picture with the drummer. Maybe show a little more motion next time?

do you have any suggestions as to how I could achieve more motion? [I assume you mean with the drumsticks?] would second shutter sync do this for me? I was shooting with my 420 metered all the way down with a shutter speed of 2 seconds and av of 8.0 if I recall correctly

I believe it would be the second curtain shutter sync. I am no flash expert, maybe if you asked in the lighting section someone with actual experience could help you

Another method might be the strobe effect.
Now that I think about it you should have been able to set your shutter speed to something like 1/30 or so and you would have been able to get some decent movement. |

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the "strobe effect"
the reason the sticks are caught is because I was so close and the flash was fired capturing them mid strike, per se.
