I just want to remind everybody that the Planes of Fame Museum, Chino, CA is holding its annual airshow on May 5 & 6, 2012.

The best show out west. Now I wish they could just get FIFI out here one year.

I'll be there at the Allied Fighters Hangar on Saturday. Look forward to it!
Question - I'm shooting with the 50D using 70-200mm f2.8 IS (the first version) and just purchased the TC 2x III. I've noticed with the 2x my photos are not nearly as sharp as they are without it when zoomed out to 400mm (equivalent). Is this normal? If I can't get tack sharp with the 2x on there I may not use it at all and suffer with the 200mm and crop later. Anyone have results using the 2x? I have plenty of experience with the setup, shoot in RAW, and still don't like the outcome using the 2x.

I would recommend if anything rent a 100-400mm lens.

There has been a lot of discussion about the 70-200 f2.8/2x combo. Opinions differ. Here's my 2 cents... I own the 70-200 f2.8 IS II and used it with the Kenko 2x TC. I thought the IQ took too much of a hit, so I ebayed the Kenko. My guess is that the IQ from the Kenko & Canon are pretty close. But I have the Canon 1.4xII, and with the 70-200 f2.8 IS II the results are very good, with only a very slight loss of IQ. The combo approaches the IQ of my 300 f2.8 IS, it's that good. I think the suggestion of renting the 100-400L is a sound idea. |

Not looking like it at this point, no...
Travel budget is being spent elsewhere this year. Biggies for me include: ISAP in VA Oshkosh California Capitol Airshow (95% on this one)

Family trip to Hawaii and local gigs are keeping me out of this one...even though I have a very interesting invitation to be there.

The schedule for POF looks pretty good this year. They even got Sean B Tucker to perform.

Think I'll be going on Sunday. Just debating if I'm nuts enough to drive out early in the morning for the sunrise photography session again. Hm..
I see they've got the F4 Phantom flying this year. It'll be over 25 years since I last recall seeing a F4 up in the air in person. It should be fun for me.

My favorite show. The sunrise the last years has blown in a way. I went last year on Sunday at sunrise and we got pissed on big time. In fact it was a weird storm that blew through. It rained untl 11 am or so and then started to clear up.

This will be only my 2nd time at Chino's PoF Airshow. For those in the know, Chino has 2 runways going E/W, and 1 intersecting runway going NE/SW. Last year, I got to the front a little late and I was closer to the west side, instead of parking myself at the "V".
In case some of you have shot at Chino's PoF Airshow multiple years, where have you found to be the best location/position to be in? (If you don't mind sharing.) I'm thinking about parking myself at the "V" this year, since if memory serves me right, a lot of the planes take that corner as they swoop by.
