Some people...

Here's what I posted on the Flickr thread about it.

"Do you guys realize that this is not a real world situation? Please tell me if you've ever shot a photo with your body cap or lens cap on that has had 100,000 hits on Flickr, because I've never seen it. This is something people are going crazy about when it is not an issue in real world shooting conditions. You know that little rubber thingy on the strap of your camera? That's meant for night shooting to cover the viewfinder. This is a known kink in digital camera systems and it's nothing to be worried about! The light coming in through your lens will overwhelm the tiny amount of light coming in from either view finder or LCD screen. I have also not seen where any light has leaked into my sensor. I have done the test, and it only effects the metering system. That being said, it does not effect the metering system enough to change the exposure. I've been getting great exposures with my 5D3 and I will definitely NOT be giving it back to Canon to repair something that isn't wrong with it. "
In a real world you in this situation read of the meter - and enter the data into manual - as you will probably from there try some other manuals settings ++++ to Nate

Yes because there is not an issue. It's a great camera that captures excellent exposures and it's super sharp.

Exposure changing what appears to be due to Light leak from the View Finder even in ambient light.
Are you serious, or joking?

Of course light can get through the viewfinder, you wouldn't be able to see through it otherwise. Just think of all that light that comes through your lens and into your eye when you are taking pictures. Now consider that light travels in both directions through the camera and over the metering system. The amount of light entering the VF naturally increases as you move away from the camera, this is an issue with all SLRs ever made and is why they supply a cover to put over the VF to block the light when you are not looking through it. It affects FF bodies more than crop bodies because they have bigger, brighter viewfinders.

Nothing new here, it is mentioned in the manual to every SLR Canon make.

I can remember my AE-1 and A-1 had little rubber eye piece covers that attached to the strap and were meant to be slipped over the eye piece when you used the camera on a tripod.
