Default Photographing a solar eclipse?

I have the good forture of being in the direct path of the May 20th solar eclipse. What would be interesting to photograph of this event? Not sure what one would need to directly photograph the sun (how much of a ND factor?). Also, I suppose one could go to manual, set for a normal exposure, and do time lapse images of the waxing and waning darkness? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Default Re: Photographing a solar eclipse?

First off - this is an annular eclipse, so there will always be some of the Sun visible. Do not attempt to shoot the eclipse without proper filtering. I posted instructions on how to use Baader AstroSolar film to make a suitable screw-in filter here.
