I just downloaded/updated DPP on my computer, and played with it's new HDR option. It's easy to use, and let me take three .cr2 images taken using AEB and quickly create an HDR image. There are several presets you can select, and even several sliders to make more adjustments. You can also auto align prior to starting the HDR creation. It's free, and it can help improve results. Here's a quick three shot image combined from RAW images of my the view out my computer "office" room. My neighbor's white travel trailer on the left is blown out white in the "normal" shot, looks good in the under exposed shot (all else is too dark), while the third shot (overexposed) is really blown out. Combined in HDR they look normal, which is part of the goal. If you have not updated your copy of DPP, then you should think about it now. The link to download/upgrade appears to have just been made available in the USA.

I don't use a G-series, but thanks for the heads up on the new feature.

I did not try combining three JPEGs initially, but that works too. It does not have to be a Canon RAW file.

I also tried taking three AEB RAW shots from my NX100, converting them quickly to TIFF using the Samsung RAW converter, then using the Canon DPP software to combine the TIFFs in to an HDR. The results were very good, and easy to do.

Thanks for the heads up. Downloaded the updates a couple of days ago, and played around with the DLO functions on some RAW files I took a year or so back. Works a real treat.
I was meaning to go and shoot the sunset tonight and try the HDR function, but got sidetracked and ended up too late. Great to hear it works with jpegs. If I get a decent result, I'll post back here |

In fact, the HDR function will work on one, two or three images. Mostly does a decent job on just one shot by bringing up the deep shadows without blowing the highlights or mid tones.

Hi,
I just installed DPP version 3.10.2.0 but I can't find that option to merge AEB images for HDR. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Ron edit ... DOH! Version 3.11.31.0 has it right under Tools -> Start HDR Tool Thanks ... you guys are great !! Last edited by RonStrilaeff : 12th of August 2012 (Sun) at 19:46. Reason: solved the problem myself |

Yes, all the above, and works great. Another bonus, is that the DPP compositing tool can help make star trails and multiple moon exposures if you shoot on a tripod.
