Default Panning attempt @ Linton 24/04/12

Up at my local again on Tuesday, the Tuc's were out in force but I thought I'd hang around on the off chance of a visitor.

Nothing came in, but in fairness there was about a 2 hour gap where I fell alseep in my car and just about anything could have come through and I wouldnt have woken up!!

Anyway, late on in the afternoon I decided to have a go at panning - not really something I've had the confidence to try much in the passed. Anyway the following were taken at 1/80th, I decided as well that I wasnt going to 'spray and pray' with the 7d so I didnt actually come away with that many pictures and think I managed to get a few keepers.

Been messing. I think the last one works better with a wider crop.....

These are pretty nice! Either crop works for me, but I have so many wide shots that I'd probably go with the tighter one.

They look good to me & I prefer the wide version showing where it's going.

Yeah, I think I agree - I suppose that as the panning gives the sensation of movement, its only natural to give the plane somewhere to 'move' into so to speak.

Still I'ma sucker for a close up too!!

Anyway thanks for the comments.

Very nice mate, see how much more interesting they are too.

Yes you don't get as many keepers, but 1 great shot is better than 100 ok ones.

Since everything is rear 3/4, they must have done a good job of sneaking up on you...

Nice panning but got anything from in front of the three-nine line?

I like 1 and 5 because the brightness and contrast makes them "pop" a little more. Panning action looks good on all I think.

All of your photos are "going away". Do you have any before they pass your center line?

Ah I see what you mean now - due to the angle if the runway and spot I was viewing from to get them 'ahead' would mean not much in the background to give that sense of speed (plus there's a tree in the way!)

I like every one. My only nitpicks are with #3 and #4. The sharpness of the lines of the structure in the background are distracting.
