That sucks, however, when you dump rivers of money into a car and you don't have something as rudimentary as a fire extinguisher in the vehicle, that defies common sense.

Just curious...would that qualify as "natural light"?

The article said "the harness collapsed." I'm assuming this was the wiring harness. If that's true, then he used the wrong wire to build up the harness. There are many different types of wire on the market, including types that would be less brittle in the cold.

Also, was the car parked outside or in an un-heated garage?

My thoughts exactly. You're not going to put out a gas fire with water. An extinguisher in a performance car should be mandatory, and they're far less expensive than a new dashboard or windshield. ;)

Absolute BS. There's no such thing. What actually happens is the heat from the engine makes the insulation on the wiring brittle. It's far more likely that the wiring wasn't properly insulated and secured than the issue having been an effect of the "wrong wiring" . Turbocharged engines generate massive amounts of heat, and a lot of backyard tuners don't take that into consideration when building out their cars. I've had to deal with more than one smoked harness, but it usually doesn't result in an engine bay bonfire.

Whatever happened, the builder still did it wrong...
