Canon will have to go full-frame to match Nikon for noise and IQ
and they will fail no doubt.

Well, I'm not going to hold off on my purchase of an Olympus E-M5 for this. Even if Canon releases something, it'll probaby only have 3-4 lenses at launch along w/ an EF adaptor.
Given the fact that I just sold all my Canon gear and lenses to jump into the m43 market, unless Canon comes out with something really spetacular, I'm not jumping back to Canon. Sorry Canon....too little too late, especially w/ everyone having a huge headstart in the compact mirrorless market. You need to fire whomevever decided that these cameras wouldn't become so popular.

But as to being "a few years away"....have you played with a Sony Alpha 77? It really is very good! It's just the continuous shooting mode that's lacking a bit, due to the EV "issue"......but time and again, people with the 5D2 mocked those with faster cameras with the old adage of correct use of a camera versus "spray 'n' pray". So, if that's really true, why would anyone spend $3200 on a 22.3MP 5D3, when the full-frame, 24MP Sony is only $1400? Hohoho! Quote:
We'll see...but I really hope they don't fudge this one up....

I just sold my 5D2 and kit lens (still have the 34 f/1.4) and will buy either the Fuji X-Pro1 or the Olympus E-M5. I, too, have waited for Canon to do something but they waited too long - they lost one customer, maybe for life.
Instead of waiting they should release something. It is better to lose a few DSLR sales to Canon mirrorless cameras than for the competition to make those sales. I still wonder how one makes up his mind when buying a compact camera. There must be room for some mirrorless cameras in the lineup. |

I'm gonna have to chime in with the others in saying that the only interesting mirrorless is a full frame mirrorless.
So come on now Canon (or Nikon). The first one to makes this camera will get my money. I'd already own the Leica M9 if it wasn't so darned expensive. |

V1 is really crappy camera, one of the worst mirrorless cameras. if canon could make a mirrorless camera with atleast 1.6 crop sensor, and then make adapter to be EF compatible, it will be a winner. |

I even had a play with the various Olympus mirrorless cameras last week, and was again, impressed at how they're mimicking dSLRs, while sporting what must be among the most plasticky, hideous lenses ever made. Come on Canon! Get a move on!!!

Anyway, that is not a good thing. I hope Canon doesn't decide to walk the same path and make a "half assed product", just because Nikon's mirrorless "crap cams" has strong sales. |

I think making a FF mirrorless compact would be a poor decision. It's a very niche market and the price point would just get too close to Leica. Nobody is going to pick Canon over Leica. And Canon and Nikon already exclusively own the FF market. Who do they need to compete with? The place where Canon is losing sales is m4/3 and NEX against their Rebels (and maybe 60D). The $400-$1000 market is where they need to launch a product. That's why they did the G1x. While there is a lot of competition in the APS-C mirrorless market, there are still no home-runs yet (maybe the E-M5). I think something with a good APS-C sensor and compact pancake primes and zoom would capture a lot of attention. People have only gravitated toward m4/3 because NEX can't release lenses that make sense and Samsung's bodies are not very compelling. Many would rather be using a larger than 2x crop sensor given a compelling option.
