The composition is very nice but it lacks any lighting, making the image look very flat and dull, they should try shooting the same scene either at sunrise or sunset and then they will see the difference good light can make. Good 1st attempt though.

Shot from eye level.

Try from lower down closer to the water, and a long exposure.

What's photo work? Is she looking to be hired by a newspaper or something?

Careful with the exposure too...seems like some of the whites are overblown...a good first attempt though

Decent photo, just the wrong time of day.

I like the image and angle actually, just sorta dull... another time of day early am or early eve would be better.

As everyone else has said, shooting landscapes in the middle of the day when the sun is so intense is a problem. The contrast range of the scene is more than the camera can capture so you end up with blown highlights, deep shadows, and no subtlety. By shooting later in the day the sunlight is less bright, shadows are softer, and if she uses a tripod she can cause motion blur on the water by using a longer shutter speed. The composition is pretty good, but it might be better if you could see the edge of the shoreline on the right side instead of having the water go out of the edge.
