Psyche, a german based industrial group, touring Australia December 2005. Unfortunately the turnout was absymal (approx 30 people in a 400 capacity venue) but the show was fantastic. The owner of the venue handled the lighting and it was the best I've seen in a small venue.
Hopefully this will be my first magazine publication - more on that if and when it goes ahead. Psyche was shot in RAW, NOVAkILL & Intrasonic were shot in JPEG. All show with 20D + 28-75mm @ ISO 1600 or better. I will gratefully recieve any constructive criticism and comments. There are more photos published on my website www.rocksluts.net.au. Quality shots Angus, it's a shame when quality acts are not patronised well, then you get U2 selling 70,000 tickets in an hour, go figure.
Roger.

Thanks Roger, yeah it does weird me out, but I guess that's rock'n'roll. I find it really depressing that a subculture (Goths in Australia) that complains about big names don't tour and then there is little or no support for the bands that do tour and most local bands struggle to get even their friends to turn up! At $20 it was hardly a big investment.

Great captures! I like the first one where the foreground is crisp and the keyboard guy is swathed in the 'Tyndall (McCann) Effect' lighting.

I see that at the casino, too, where I first class act does not attract an appropriate audience and they have to give tickets away to try to fill the house! Angus, are you going to turn on Image Editing OK? I would actually try some things on some of your images ... a little selective levels and saturation on the guy in the first image for instance.
You are certainly correct that appears to be super lighting for a 400 person venue! What is an Industrial Band?

Angus- they're awesome shots!
Dwight- industrial music can probably be divided into serveral sub-cultures. it's music that is derived from metal (perhaps punk?) and frequently uses samples and effects, has 'clanky' machinary type sounds- some mainstream industrial would be Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Rammstein...but that's just how i would eplain it

Skn, I was doing OK until you mentioned specific bands ... while I have heard of NIN that's about it. Samples of what sounds? What sort of Effects? My experience only runs from ZZ Top (two old guitar guys) to Tony Bennett (one old crooner) through James Brown, Seal and Moody Blues ... all pretty tame stuff for us oldies!

Angus, I wasn't clear ... I know about sampling ... I was asking specifically about what it is that they use samples of ... buildings tumbling down, band saws, metal stamping machines ... you know, industrial stuff? I have heard some incredible, single individual, realtime, a cappella, multipart harmonies with all sorts of rhythm variations done by a jazz vocalist lady via sampling ... it is a wonderful tool.

Dwight- the samples used could be 'clanky machine' noises, distorted voices, synthesizer, static sound....i guess any distorted sound. effects include distorting or muffling the voice or any of the instruments...hope that isn't too vague

Awesome shots Angus.
Australia has some awesome bands at present. Hopefully we will again see an Aussie band take on the likes of U2 again soon. Home grown is the best
