Default Andrews AFB Show this weekend

Anybody headed out there? I went a few years back when I only had a P&S camera.

Just looked over their rules and it says no backpacks or camera bags. I know they don't have issues with big lenses...and I plan to bring my 500mm....but I also want to bring my wide angle for parked airplane shots. When my big lens is not on the camera how will I carry it? Any suggestions??

Last year they allowed small camera bags, but it's up to the the security personnel discretion. I had a 100-400 on the body and my wide angle, batteries & cards in a cheap shopping plastic bag last year

Camera bags are allowed, with size restrictions.

Allowed Articles/Items
...
Camera Bags (Smaller then 1 cubic foot)

They even allow tripods, which surprises me a bit, given the size of the crowd.

The lineup doesn't seem as interesting this year, aside from the B2 on Saturday.

I guess my big thing is, when I have my 150-500mm off the body. I gotta carry that thing. I do have the soft case for it somewhere...which I think is less than 1 cubic foot so I guess that will be what I do.

The soft case you have would be fine. I carry my lenses in Think Tank Digital Holsters attached to my belt. Plenty of room in there for your lens, some additional cards and batteries. http://www.thinktankphoto.com/catego...-holsters.aspx You should be able to pick one up at Penn Camera. You'll need to take it off before going through the metal detector, and they will want you to open it so they can look inside. I've never had a proplem. Get there early (like I'm going to be on that first bus early) so they aren't dealing with really large crowds yet. Be polite. Remember, these folks were volun-told to do this and would probably rather be doing something else. I have personally seen them allow people with camera backpacks that are larger than they specify go through.

Unfortunately, I can't make it this year. I'll be at the ISAP symposium in Norfolk.

According to the Washington Post, the Andrews show has been cut back to once ever two years due to budget constraints.

At least they're alternating years with Andrews. Gives us someplace to go every year, although Langley is a bit of a drive.

I only live a few miles from Langley, I think they are also alternating years with Oceana which is closer for me
