Any Go-Pro'ers in here? I just got a Hero2 and I like it alot as a multi-use camera. Ive been building rigs to hold it at exciting angles on my mountain bike and such. I was just wondering how many people have played with one and what kind of mounting solutions people have came up with. I will post a few pics soon, and a video eventually. I am working on trying to make an epic short vid with gopro and 60D.

I have the GPH2 and Contour GPS, both great lil cameras I love them both.
Can not wait for the Wifi bac pac to come out, think they pushed it back again... then you can link up to 50 of these little cameras together. I mainly use them for paintball, but work well for smaller shots that have to be in HD, In paintball its either on my marker using the bar mount or when I am taking photos, its under bunkers to catch some up close and personal footage. here is an easy DIY idea: Take an kitchen timer/egg timer and use the curved adhesive pad and place it on top....you now have a simple time laps camera hope it helps. Also highly suggest putting in the settings of 720p @ 60fps for any slow motion footage you want its alot smoother, on the contour they have two settings for 60fps ones static the other is action |

Nice, yeah it would be good for paintball. That what I like about these is the durability. I'm not afraid to risk it being that I can replace the housing. Wifi? diddint know the were doing that. Now people gonna be using bullet-time like mad. The Egg-timer idea is a good one. I tried to build a motorized rig for my old Canon SD1000 to time-lapse things. Could never get it to turn slow enough though. I was kinda using the Canon as my GoPro before I bought one. Here is a video I made where electric taped my old SD1000 onto a GSG Mp-5.
http://youtu.be/BlijzF71GUg I haven't got to go shooting yet since my GoPro but I cant wait to film some gun range time with higher FPS. |

I had my GoPro mounted on the front bumper of my Jeep and hit a small deer at about 45 mph... in the dark, I saw both the deer and the GoPro skip and bounce down the rural blacktop road after I'd come to a halt. I walked, first, past the dead deer, and about 30 yards to pick up my GoPro whose mount hadn't even broken, it "snapped" out of it's mount. And it turned right on and I used it to grab a pic of the deer... sorry about the crappy photo, it was dark...
![]() I still have the GoPRo (it was one of the first that came out) and it still works fine! Definitely durable! |

Ya search up the Wifi bac pac, its not out yet but when it comes out if your in the field with a smart phone, you can turn on the wireless hot spot on and then sit there with your phone or tablet and become the director where ever you are. Which will work well In my case, as I play paintball and take photos and video so instead of me sitting on the side lines with my cam, I can sit there with my ipad and choose what cams to turn on and when. Here is my test between both the go pro and contour now do not take this video for anything other then the test, I threw it together in a few minutes after the shoot and really didnt get into doing anything with it other then the comparison and plus my friends like the first person perspective so again this is not my quality of work just thrown together sorry just noticed the video you posted, good work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5sbhFaPHEo&feature=plcp Also Logicus, ya the go pros are kinda a pain to take photos as there is a delay, hence the blurry photo lol I had the same problem for the longest time, now i just use the timer to take a photo and no longer hand hold it to take photos(other then on the mono pod) You say you had it on the bumper when you hit the deer, did you get any footage of this? (i do not need to see it just asking as that would be interesting) Last edited by Arson24 : 17th of May 2012 (Thu) at 16:16. |

@ Arson, Great use of all camera's dude. I wish I still had a place like that to shoot in. Where I live now is limited. I miss the gravel/shale pits back home. We did the same thing! so much fun. Great comparison with the contour. I almost bought one until I saw the Hero2. I really liked the body of the contour better due to mount-ability, but the H2 definitely brings better quality. As far as the WiFi goes...I never thought of that! running them like a TV studio... makes sense! but what will be the WIFI range is the question.
@Logicus...Awesome story dude. This kind of thing is why I spent $300 on one! And your story just backs it up. These little bastards are indestructible! I have watched these camera's go through hell and back and still work. and with 720 60P.......what other device can do that? I have always wanted a camera I could place anywhere to get a shot and retrieve it. No other cam I have ever owned could do what the GoPro Can in HD... I would never put my beloved 60D where I would a GoPro.. that's why I love it. Anyone else with one....post your joy! |

i also have a gopro and a 60d. I mostly use the gopro for kayaking and surfing though. I used the display mount to make a chest mount and i used a 4'' pvc pipe, cut it in half and used velcro to make a leg/arm mount.

Good idea using the stock box mount for a chest mount. I need to make one for the chest for Mt. biking. I think it would be pretty stable mounted there plus it would be a good angle to see the trail, handlebars etc.. I just bought the tripod mount and have been rigging up stuff bending and bolting 1/2" aluminum strips from Lowes. got some cool angles so far, I will post some vid eventually.

@ charles, that was awesome man
Now with the newer contours if you have the wirless card you can now use your smart phone to set the up the shot and change the settings via bluetooth I will agree with you there also, there are more mounting options for the Contour as they do not need a case to connect the base or mount to. But the trade off is the settings and all, The go pro you can go into the menu using the LCD screen and change what you want when you want, the contour you either need the wireless card or hook it up to computer to change the settings (other then the option 1 option 2 kinda selections) but your right Helmet cams ARE awesome! |

I also suggest the suction cup mount, very cool shots from the car or side of the car when using that. Also great for door shots. |

Cool Stuff Charles, I love watching combat vids as brutal as they can be. These definitely take a new angle on the experience of war. My friend and I have shot competition matches in the past and I cant wait to do more of that with the new cam. It will also be a good tool to watch myself from outside myself and see what im doing when I miss!
@Arson, I looked at the suction mount. I will probably have to get one eventually, although I know how my GPS cup can be. tempature/weather changes like to make it fall off the windshield. I will probably tether the camera to a backup rope attached to another mount. Just in case it loses suction at high speed etc.. |

yes very true, but if you wash the area down really good and push as hard as you can
on it, it wont fall off. Hell people put these things on air planes useing the suction cup, not sure if they tether it but i would assume they do. If you wanna try it out before buying it PM me your addy I will send it down to you...I have two so I'm not gonna miss the other |

I also have my GoPro in a silcone case. We have seen note on here where errant GoPro cases have come open if they hit the road (or other things), the silicone case helps protect against this. Better not to have the GoPro fall off in the first place obviously.
