The campground is finally open at one of my favourite places to shoot. So I took the 2.5 hour drive to escape the house. With all the recent fires and the banning of back county travel I was afraid some of the hiking trails might be closed. Luckily, they were not. One of the neat things about this particular area is a short hiking trail to top of a large hill with a rock cliff with a great view. Although a little tougher when you're carrying 80 lbs of gear!! I arrived at a time of day when the light is very harsh and even though there were many small clouds it was a challenging shoot. I had a high up view of the landscape so I pulled out the 70-200mm to try some tree top photos. Something I have not done much of. The clouds actually aided in filtering the light across the forest. Here are a few that I liked.
Another thing I love about this area are the water falls. I was here last Fall and the water was so low I could navigate all over the place with ease. Not so this time. Even though we had very little precipitation over the Winter season the falls are going pretty strong. Not as large as I've seen but great for photo opportunities non-the-less. After exploring the area I came to the conclusion I needed to get wet to get to the spot I with the best point of view. Finding the safest and shallowest spot to cross through the water I was able to get to where I wanted. Every visit to these falls is like a new discovery and this was no exception. I ended up shooting for about an hour and got one of my best panoramas yet of the area. Unfortunately, after I packed up to move to another spot to shoot the sunset, the road to where I wanted to go was blocked off due to construction. So I missed out on what was a incredible sunset. I know, as I saw it through the tree tops driving back! I will know better for next time. I should have gone back to the high point lookout. Anyway, the panorama is a monster. I shot 14 angles in portrait orientation. I took 3 sets of exposures just make sure I got what I needed even though I used a 3 stop GND. When it came to processing I used the extra exposure to blend in a little details here and there. Mostly the sun and bright reflections and some of the dark areas caused by using a GND filter. Here are a few of my favourite photos of the falls including the panorama. Here is a 100% crop taken from the above panorama: 8 ![]() So for what was a last minute get the hell out of the house escape I am happy with what I came home with. Hope you like as well! Thumbs up on experimenting with the tree top shots.
Its a real challenge to capture that sparkling magic. The falls pano is outstanding.

Love that pano! Beautiful work as always. Gotta admit you made me scan the pano closely to find the fishermen.
