Default Live Music - Mz Ann Thropic

It's been a huge week for me but the gigs keep rolling in, which is a good thing. Mz Ann Thropic played a tiny Sydney pub called the Excelsior in Surry Hills. The lighting was god-awful, which makes me very glad I switched to RAW. Also, as it was a smaller gig, I played around with my new 580EX speedlight and I managed to get some nice results despite the conditions.

The rest of the images from the series are published on fasterlouder here and also on the Rocksluts web site.

The Lewis Carrol inspired Mz Ann Thropic.

Michelle Madden of Tourettes giving a guest appearance

Finally one more of Mz Ann Thropic.

Mz An is looking good in that first one. Is that a tatt a picture of herself, I wonder?
The lighting looks great.

I'm real busy or I would have seen this sooner ... another lady to fall in love with, eh? So, in the first image, your 580? If so, how did you hold it?

Thanks for the compliment. As for the tattoo, I don't know the story behind it. Her website is located here. You may find further information in the forums, perhaps.

Thank you. That was a very good angle for her (not that I found many bad ones!).

Thanks Dwight, she is a truly gorgeous girl and she's got a superb voice also.

No 580 in the first - 1/160 @ f/2.8, ISO 3200 according to the exif.

This one however was with the 580. Mounted on camera bounced off the ceiling from memory.

I'm not sold on the use of flash for rock'n'roll but the 580 did quite nicely. I just need to work out how to do the drag shutter technique. I've not had any gigs where I've had the luxury of any extended experimentation with the technique.

Hi Angus, some very cool shots here mate.......Mz A has some very groovy tattoo work, I'll have to take the band in if the opprtunity arises. Incidentally I'm spending NYE in Newcastle where Johhny Green's Blues Cowboys are playing, the only thing is alcohol and cameras don't mix very well lol.
Roger.

I can imagine there are few if any bad angles. I would have considered removing the EXIT sign from the last one. I did try to adjust the white balance as it looks a tad odd to me but everything I did looked cold. Love the intimacy.

Excellent captures you have there. I like the first one too. She does look a bit like C. Love at a certain angle.
