Got the 5D III for the next seven days.
My first set of test photos were shot in RAW and the best JPG setting (L). JPGs look fine but I don't do much with them. But the RAW files each have (and I am as much of a Jimi Hendrix fan as the next guy) a purple haze across them. I am guessing there's a very basic answer to this like a setting that's in the camera or whatever. I am also using the new Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC. It's not the CF card because all the 5D2 RAW files on the card are fine. The purple haze shows up on my Windows computer. Can't find anything online about this. Glad I have this combo for a few days before I really need it. Lots of new bells and whistles on the 5D III. |

Am I the only one singing a Prince song in my head?
Edit: sorry, that's purple rain... either way, it's in my head now.

Were you shooting wide open with bright highlights? Just wondering if it might be chromatic aberration...

Its better to use the UV Haze filter than the Purple Haze filter.

These are perfectly normal shots in my office. JPEGS are fine. I am just thinking that this is Windows telling me that I have to convert the RAW files to JPEG first before doing anything with them. Which is fine except that the RAW files on the same card coming from the 5D2 are fine.
I've never tried to upload a large RAW file before to this site. It is of course about 25MB. How do I do that? Just attach the file - it's too large. I don't have any URL to point to so I guess attaching is the only way? |

Here's what all the RAW files look like.
I assume when I get home and load them into Photoshop all will be fine. But I do use this Windows computer here at my office to organize the photos so it will be somewhat annoying to have to shoot in JPG and RAW all the time to be able to evaluate what is worth keeping. I am guessing that this Windows 7 computer just needs to be updated to accept RAW files from a Canon 5D III. Right? Because the jpegs are fine and both the jpgs and RAW files are fine on the same CF card and on this same computer from the 5D2. I have enjoyed the Prince comments. I guess I am showing my age (or you showing yours)by my reference to Jimi Hendrix and yours to Prince's Purple Rain. |

Yeah, they should not look like that. I had issues with Lightroom until I got it updated. Maybe you're having not updated software issues. If the JPEGs look fine, I would assume it is because the camera has done its ion camera conversions. Update software or let us know what happens when you upload at home.
On a side note, am I the only attorney with a non messy office?

I think yes, it's a software issue. I needed to update software as well to take the files from the MK3.

I think I read somewhere this issue can be fixed by the latest firmware update.

A lot of people here have blamed LR and/or PS. Do you know if the RAW has the same appearance if you use the Canon supplied DPP software?
