Default Lighting/flash brackets

I currently have a Bower ring flash. It's great, but problem is while it worked great for the 100L, now that I have a MP-E 65mm and I enjoy using it at 4-5x magnification, I always find that the flash gets in the way or bumps into whatever I'm taking a picture of, when I'm literally an inch away from my subject because of how it's positioned.

So I plan to buy a 580EX. I heard something about using some sort of bracket and transmitter so I can mount it slightly slanted to an angle. This is to direct the flash towards the subject, but still being able to put a somewhat large enough diffuser on it.

Anyone have a list/link(s) to stuff like that?

most use an off camera flash cable rather than a transmitter, much cheaper. Obviously if you were going to use 2 flash guns the transmitter would be the answer.

I was researching the same issue yesterday. I wanted a bracket for my 430EX that enables me to move the flash forward when I used higher magnification and the lens gets longer.

After coming across the thread I have linked below I ordered a Kirk FB-8 flash bracket. I won't get it until Thursday so I can't confirm how well it works but it looks like it will do the job. There are a lot of pictures of it at the bottom of the thread I have linked.

Here is the link: CLICK ME

Ironically with a cheaper camera like the 600D, 60D or 7D the camera could remotely fire that flash without the need of a separate remote system or a cable.

Ha ha, I was going to say I've got the Kirk bracket, when I saw the link is to my own pics of it!

If you've got the funds, the MT-24EX is hard to beat when you get in really close.

I have moved you to talk about macro.

Yes this is an issue sometimes with the twin flash around 4X and 5X.

On the other hand a large flash on a bracket gets in the way of bushes etc and I really miss the focus assist light feature of the twin flash.

Another alternative is the ring flash I guess as that is completely flat, but so can the lighting be plus those ring shaped highlights.

Like camera bags there is nothing that is perfect.
