Default printing panorama photos (stitched)

I am a long time photographer and have had my Canon S820D printer for about 6 months.

I just purchased a G3 and the results are as good as 35mm and rival my Hasselblad at 8" x 10".

I have always been intrigued by the old photos of church groups, motorcycle clubs etc, in the panorama format.

I thought by stitching 4 or 5 photos horizontally, I could duplicate the old photos.

Even though the camera and software support stitching and state that you can "view it or print it", I can't figure out where to get the paper or how to print it.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for any help.

Larry,

I have always reduced the photo size or increased the pixels per inch to print my panorama shots. Using A3 size paper will give you a pretty large print. How big are you talking about?

I do know that my Epson printer can use roll paper, which maybe a solution, although I have never tried it.

To print larger than a single sheet of paper the primnter will need to have the option to print on roll or banner paper built into the printer software (driver)

Of all the printers I have owned only one could do this,. it was an older HP.

I had some panoramas printed on a Fuji Frontier. For the 4" wide paper the operator can select longer formats, I think up to 10". I resampled my file to 300dpi, the native resolution of the Frontier.
I made the panorama with Panorama Factory (

I have used epson panoramic photo paper with good results using an Epson 640 printer, have to check if your canon printer supports paper size.

details of size of paper http://www.atlex.com/Epson/paper/panoramic.htm

Larry,

You didn't say what operating system you have. I have a Canon S820 running with WinXP. If you select any kind of photo paper type, you are limited to 23" or so. I have printed panos with Epson's roll paper (4" wide) with good results. The paper weight is a little thin for my taste. Anyway, I just cut a strip to 25" or so and feed it in by hand.

Selecting 'Banner' in the printer settings will allow for longer prints, but the paper type is restricted to "PLAIN". I understand that the Win98 driver will allow for any paper type with banner. I haven't tried it yet. I don't know how well the Epson paper will work with the paper type "plain". I know the Kodak paper I use doesn't look as good as selecting Photo Paper Pro. Maybe I'll try later this morning and post my results.

Another issue with banner printing is that the software you use for printing needs to support multiple pages. I usually print from Photoshop Elements, and it doesn't print across multiple pages. So for this banner trick, I'm going to try printing within Canon's Photostich application.

Anyone know of a roll photo paper wider than 4"?

Here is a source for roll paper, INCLUDING widths larger than 4"

I have used them with success.
