Default What focal length should I use?

Greetings! What's the best focal length to use for taking pictures of the night sky? I want to keep the stars in focus as much as possible so I'm assuming I should focus near infinity but wanted to get more expert advice.

using only a tripod you'll want to use a wide angle lens. Read thru the thread "You Don't Need a Telescope" in the astronomy photo sharing forum for many ideas and examples of great photo's done on just a tripod.

What equipment are you using? Camera? Lens? Tripod? Try reading this.
