Default Focus fails on moving away objects. EF70-200 f/4 is usm

Hello everyone!

Here is what i'm worried about.
My body is 550D and the lens is in the subject.
Most of my photos are cars on the street and when i shoot a car which moves away from me, it is never in focus.
Usually the speed of a car is approximately 15-20 km/h (traffic jam),
my distance from the object is around 15-20 meters, i have tested all the zoom range and i'm shooting at 5.6 using AI SERVO and IS. Very rarely i get a focus which satisfies me. I have tried to shoot without IS, but that didn't help much.

However the is no problem when a car drives towards me, no matter what speed even 90 km/h, i get most of the photos focused well.

Is it possible that AI Servo can't track properly the moving away objects?

Thank you!

I wouldn't expect so, & haven't ever noticed it, but have never run that sort of test.
The best place to get an answer might be in MotorSports Talk, so I'm moving the thread.

At that range with a sharp lens like that should see no reason for problems....An image with some shooting info attached is required if you want to get help.
