Not really IMO just slowing their reflexes down. TBH you would never catch me close to a snake unless there is 1/2 inch glass plate tween us. CO2 isn't harmful except in closed spaces. I try to think outside the box for solutions. I discovered wayyy too many poisonous snakes on a military 15 month tour in Taiwan in the revetments built in preparations for the Pearl Harbor attack.

Macro for rattlers? LOL I don't think there is a meaner snake, those are some bad boys.

Only thing I could do with a macro lens is throw it at a rattler from a distance and run like mad.
