Wrapping up another Canon DSLR speed challenge, here we go ...

These are my comments on this week's entries.

MSJGD "On the edge in Antarctica"
Killer composition. The viewer feels the power of the water. The glacier/iceberg in the background is perfect. Penguins feel comfortable on the edge of the broiling sea, but the viewer does not.

Maureen Souza "Friendly Perch"
Nice sharp snappy shot.

Flo "Edge of the Ledge"
I like the idea of this one. I would suggest that the subject in this case really needs to be 100% sharp as everything else is, by design, out of focus.

Jason C "Untitled Submission"
Light, shadow and lines all work very nicely together in this one. Deceivingly simple at first glance, this photo reveals itself slowly on longer inspection.

studlymonkey "on the edge with danger"
A very nice composition with a razor sharp subject that attracts the viewer's attention ... nice shot.

airfrogusmc "Yellow Star"
First and foremost, a striking composition. Two bold colors make a strong and immediate statement. The bricks and star are common enough objects but when they are placed together, the combination prompts some interesting questions.

teekay "Art on The Edge"
Nice photo with an edge that clearly changes the viewers perception of the bold forms and colors.

Mareshow "On The Edge ... Of Extinction"
Fantastic subject matter that I feel suffers from a competing background. I might have considered some closeups here ... unless of course it mean kneeling in this carnage ;)

Kevan "Lookout"
This is a very nice capture that offers some different possibilities for cropping. I thought at first I would prefer it as a square composition, eliminating the right side. Then, the second sharp foreground leaf on the right plus the interesting shapes in the background had me thinking they finish off a nice composition. Either way this is a very pleasing photo.

If I were lucky enough to find Jean-Guy's "On the edge in Antarctica" framed and for sale I'd probably have to buy it. Great job Jean_Guy ... you are in charge on challenge #246. Thanks everyone for entering this week.

cheers

Paul

Right now...I wish I was there, Jean-Guy. Currently, the temps are climbing through the 80's on their way up to a 100f high. My wife's b-day is today and she's getting exactly what she doesn't want, heat.

Great entries everyone. Jason beat me to the abstract, so I went buggy instead. Thanks KB for the fine judging and comments. Yeah, where to drag them crop lines, huh? I decided that that matching leaf to the right added depth and parallels, so that's what I did. Helped offset the subjects and tell a bit more story.

Stay cool for those of you who are sweltering.
