Canon has posted a recall for certain models of the S100. Here is the link. Disregard if it has been posted again.

Mine starts with #32 Mike so I guess it's one of the faulty units .

I see this artical is for the USA and PR , any issue returning in Canada ?

I wonder what the turn around time is ? I'm leaving for a trip to see my new grandson 8th of August in Edmonton and would really like to have it with me . Perhaps I shouldchance it and wait till afterwards to return it . Was purchased at Henry's and has lots of warranty left .

I wouldn't worry about it. My camera is in the recalled list as well and I Have clicked well over 10 thousand pics. Just shoot with it, enjoy it, share pics and just have fun. I think this notice is for all S100 cameras.

Lol. Don't feel bad. D800/E are having some serious AF issues.

I couldn't resist..;), I will shoot the heck out of the S100 and hope for the best and as far as the other camera, ha, we all know it is a non-issue 99.999999999999999% of the time. I would much rather have that as an "issue" than what is going on the with the D800! :D

She got hers repaired, when mine finally gave up, I though it's wasn't worth fixing and replaced it with a finepix EXR75.

Guess i'll take my EXR75 along when i really need photo just in case. (And according to murphy's law, taking a backup should make sure you don't need it and the S100 won't break.)

Should one still send it back if the problem never happened & the serial number matches the one stated? Errr... stumped. I've only had it for about 3 months and I've had no problems so far.

My other thought is: I guess I do have a one year warranty, I could wait and see what happens if a problem arises...

If you wanna look at it like that, then you must live in perpetual hell. Something with potential problems- name one thing that does not have potential problems ...

that does not surprise me at all.
A photographer that I see at this one event every year has been looking to change brands.. Can't- because he hasn't found a competitor that sports a good fast accurate autofocus system- including NIKON.. I always got the idea from him that Nikon's AF is just subpar- but how would I know.

No, they are saying that IF you have a failure, even after the warranty, that is from this issue they will fix it for free.

Okay. So how long are they fixing them for? I am wondering if there's a time line, or just an ongoing thing.

Mine starts with 32 and I've had one lens error a few weeks ago. Been fine ever since.

The Canon site does not list it as a "Recall", it is shown as a "Product Advisories" with the indication they will fix it out-of-warranty IF the problem is caused by the indicated "phenomenon"

Nowhere does it say you should send in properly functioning units at this time under a recall.

I'm curious, mine starts with 32 so it's in the affected range but haven't yet seen the problem. Mine is also marked "Made in Japan". This sounds like a production problem at a particular assembly plant. What is the "Made In" country of other owners of the affected s100 and have you had the problem?
