I'm curious if anyone had their S100 repaired then have the same issue happen later. Is the fix a exact replacement of hardware or an update to prevent reoccurring failures.

The components changed will be a updated version. The newer version of parts are designed to keep the problem from happening again. Not to say it can't happen again, but from what I understand are designed to keep it from failing in that fashion.

Because the advisory was based on certain blocks of serial numbers, this tells me different blocks have slightly different parts inside. So, Canon may have a lot of failures, took note, made the adjustments for new cameras, of the same model, coming off the assembly line.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I understand it.

When I got mine back (seven days after sending it in) it had a sheet that said that they replaced the Iris Assembly. Works fine now.

Also forgot to mention this as well........

In the document sent back to me, the fix was described as the following ..... "Replaced the lens assembly" No charge.

I thought the problem had something to do with a ribbon being to short which could pull out under high humidity. When my camera stopped working I was at Graceland in Memphis. It was 95 degrees, and raining so the humidity was 100%. So, when I got back home and looked up the serial numbers I knew this had to be the advisory.

Since getting it back the camera has performed great, and has been taking sharp pictures. So, I'm not complaining, but still wonder why the entire lens assembly was replaced instead of just the ribbon?

Probably less labor involved. The ribbon is likely soldered, or maybe is difficult to route properly after the lens is assembled, or is buried deep inside the lens assembly.

No, if the issue is identified as the problem, then they should take care of you.

I love my S100. Every time I use it I live in fear of it doing this. We are taking the family to Disney soon and part of me wants to only take the S100...but I don't trust it, so the 70D is coming along too.

So, your S100 is one of the Serial numbers marked as a potential problem by Canon?

I turned mine on and got the lens error shut off and restart memo. Tried it a few times, didn't work. Then I tried turning the lens ring thingy, turned it on and it was fine.
