Hi everyone
I roped myself into doing photography. I am listing Custom pool cues but some cues are not comming out . glare is the first problem , contrast or color seems to be a biggie too. I have a cannon g10 w/ polarized filter and tripod, plus a 5ft x5ft perfect square cube and have been shooting outside useing the cube. is there someone that can just treat me like I have never used a cameras before and guild me along. Pulling the wood grain or figure out in the picture is a problem. i have about 10 cues i need to shoot this is my first challenge of the 10. not to give any false impressions I have been selling cues for years but its time to give these cues proper pictures. cue that i want to list next. ![]() same cue shot in the sun light ![]() same cue shot indoors ![]() thank you farmer 1957 |

I'm not a pro, so I wouldn't be able to explain how to do this without it being a 20 page post. What you are trying to get is a picture that shows both the grain/detail of the wood, the colors of the item, as well as the high gloss shine. Your lighting is the problem. I would suggest you pick up a book called "Light, Science, and Magic". It's all about lighting in photography, and there is a section where they are photographing a wooden cigar box, similar to your pool cues. I think it would be a great help.

I would use a background that doesn't compete with the cues. I picked up a set of different colors of art paper for shooting flowers at a local arboretum. Try some black fabric to make the cues stand out.
